Director - District 5

Ms. Erica knappKnapp

I am honored to serve my community as a school board member in the Arlington School District. I have lived in Arlington since 2006. My husband Ryan and I are raising three children: Vincent, Troy and Miles. So far, they have attended Apple Preschool at Eagle Creek, Developmental Preschool at Presidents, Elementary at Pioneer, Elementary at Kent Prairie, Elementary at SVLC, and Middle at Haller and SVLC. We have found support through the teachers and staff. As a parent of three children, including a neurodiverse learner; I have a range of insight into the challenges faced by students, parents, and teachers.

I was born and raised in Washington state. I spent my elementary years in public school in Carnation, Washington before being placed in an alternative school where I spent the remainder of my school years and graduated. I was a quiet kid who begged my parents to take me to the library. I was always looking for ways to learn and be a helper. Upon graduation, I entered the workforce. Balancing work and education, I gained a vocational certificate before starting my own business.

Because my alternative school was small and with its own challenges, I was not able to fulfill as many of the opportunities in high school that I dreamed of. As a school board director, I am looking forward to making collaborative decisions that support the success of each student.

I attended Everett Community College and completed an Associates in Fine Art with Honors in 2017. I have instructed after school art classes in the elementary schools in Arlington School District. Teaching art classes is where I found a deeper connection with Arlington students, teachers, and school staff. I have volunteered in my kids’ schools, attended parent teacher conferences, PTSA events, and community events.

I first became interested in civic engagement when I owned a small business in Snohomish, Washington from 2007-2013.

I am working to support students, families, and staff to stay engaged while recognizing needs in our community and being a vocal advocate. I am a part of the ACE committee and Diversity and Community Equity Team through the school district.

Conclusively:

• The pandemic brought unprecedented challenges and amplified inequities.

• I am committed to being a sounding board for student voices, parents, teachers, para educators, and school employees.

• I value communication and continued growth.

• I work to ensure a smart use of funds and that the budget aligns with the district’s strategic plan.

Arlington is a vibrant community; let’s grow together to be the best we can be.
