Eagle Creek Elementary along with Presidents Elementary are now able to provide meals at no cost to all students this school year. Through the Meals for Washington Students program, elementary schools that have 30% or more of children that qualify for free or reduced-price meals can provide breakfast and lunch at no cost to all students at that school. Eagle Creek and Presidents met that threshold for the 2024-25 school year. Kent Prairie Elementary met the threshold last year and will also continue to provide meals at no charge to all students this year.
In order for a school to qualify each year for the program, it needs to maintain the 30% or higher free and reduced-price meal percentage. Families that qualify are encouraged to complete the free and reduced-price meals form.
“Not only does this help the school qualify for the Meals for Washington Students program each year, qualifying families can also access PUD bill support, free clothing from Kids’ Kloset, and other benefits,” said Ed Aylesworth, director of child nutrition and support services.
The Stillaguamish Valley Learning Center and Weston High School are also able to offer no cost meals to all students through the US Department of Agriculture’s Community Eligibility Provision.
