Arlington middle and high schoolers to return to school next month
HealthThe Arlington Public Schools Board of Directors voted last night to have middle and high school students return to school next month in a hybrid model. Sixth graders will return on March 8, seventh and eighth graders will return on March 15, and high schoolers will return on March 22. Freshman will have an orientation day prior to returning to campus. The board heard from families and community members, both high school principals, a high school teacher, an elementary teacher and an elementary student before making their decision.

“It was clear after hearing from administrators, students, parents and staff how important it is to have students back on campus for their social, mental health and academic well-being,” said Dr. Chrys Sweeting, Arlington Public Schools Superintendent. “By having students on campus, it will be easier for counselors and staff to provide the needed instruction, support and interventions for students.”

The board’s action aligns with the state Department of Health’s “K-12 In-Person Learning Provisions.”

There is another learning option for families that prefer not have their students on campus in a hybrid model. The Arlington Online Program provides self-directed continuous distance learning for K-12 students through online courses with support from an Arlington teacher.
