This year I will be teaching 2 blocks of eighth-grade Communication Skills and Literature, and one block of seventh-grade.  Eighth grade will be reading novels and informational materials, learning vocabulary, writing essays (literary, persuasive, expository, and narrative), literature responses, and preparing for the MSP with published items. Fridays students will write an in class reading log or journal and take their weekly vocabulary test. Unless there is a short week, these assignments are pretty much written in stone.

Seventh grade block will focus on persuasive and expository writing, grammar, literary responses, and vocabulary. I will also use published items to prepare them for their writing MSP in the spring. Students will be spending fifteen minutes a day reading their own library books and then writing a response to what they read.  Fridays the students will hand in their written reading logs, and they will have their weekly vocabulary test.
