 Here are some tips for students/parents on how you can have a terrific 5th grade year!
*Read every evening - In
5th grade, you will be expected to
read 20 different books.
*Practice your multiplication/division facts each evening- 5th graders are expected to readily know all multiplication and division problems, 0-12. A copy of the list of math facts can be found in the Useful Documents section of this website. More... |

The goal for the school year is for students to individually read 20 books in a variety of genres. The "reading wheel" includes such genres as fiction, mystery, biography, Newbery, and historical fiction. To finish the wheel by the end of the school year, students should finish 6-7 books per trimester. There will be silent reading time in class, but students should plan to read 30 min. per day at home as well. Here's a hint: students should plan on reading about 20 pages per day (5 days) for a total of about 100 pages per week. This plan allows students to finish a 200 page book in 2 weeks. More...
