Fourth Grade Daily Homework Requirements
  • AR (30 minutes or more as needed to meet weekly goal)
  • Math fact flash card practice (5-10 minutes as needed to pass daily tests)
  • Additional time, as needed to complete, any unfinished classroom work or special projects

Reading homework in 4th grade is probably different from what you have seen in prior grades. Our main daily homework requirement is 30 minutes of AR (Accelerated Reading) at home. This means each child reads an AR book he/she has selected at his/her own level to prepare for a comprehension quiz taken at school.

Math timed tests are given daily. Students must pass additon, subtraction, multiplication and division timed tests within 3 minutes for first trimester for a passing grade. Second trimester students must complete all timed tests within 2 minutes for a passing grade. Instant recall of basic facts are critical to success in math.
