Investigations Math - hands-on program where students learn problem solving strategies. Includes: computation (addition, subtraction, multiplication and division); 3-D shapes; area and perimeter; fractions; graphs; data and statistics; estimation; multiples and factors; symmetry; and math games and activities to reinforce these areas.

Problem Solving Math - problem solving strategies beyond Investigations Math, including: Making an organized list, Making a graph, Working backward, Making a diagram, and Recognizing a pattern.

Reading instruction is integrated throughout our program incorporating
both fiction and nonfiction, with a strong focus on nonfiction.
Accelerated Reader (AR) complements the Harcourt Reading and Houghton-Mifflin Science curriculum with AR silent reading in class each day as well as the required minimum of 30 minutes of AR reading homework daily.

Rainbow Writing (Five-Paragraph Essay)

or explain how to do something. Students use "rainbow pens" to keep

Keyboarding will be taught at the beginning of the year. Word, Excel, PowerPoint will be used for class projects. Preselected Internet sites will be used for research with the focus on nonfiction reading skills. Students will also learn Internet safety and to evaluate the authenticity of Web resources as the year unfolds.
