Tips for Parents

In the event of an emergency it is essential for parents to follow these tips & reminders:

  • School is one of the safest places for students to be.
  • Every school has a standard procedure for evacuation and lockdown designed to safeguard whoever is in the buildings and/or evacuate the buildings if needed.
  • Parents may experience delays in reuniting with their child(ren). Schools must ensure that students go home with authorized adults after an emergency. We will require to see identification before releasing students. Parents should check to see that student information is up to date and that those who are authorized to pick up students are correctly on file at school.
  • Listen to local television and radio and visit websites rather than create traffic jams by rushing to schools.
  • Just as you would prepare for any emergency, check your emergency supplies and make sure you have emergency phone numbers handy.
  • Create a family safety plan before an emergency and make sure children are aware of it
