Firefighters teach life-saving skills to Arlington elementary studentsFirefighters from the Arlington Fire Department are visiting Arlington elementary schools this week giving students important tips that could save their lives during a fire. Students learned how to: stay low and check doors for heat; stop, drop and roll in case their clothing catches on fire; not to hide from firefighters; not to play with matches or stovetops; safely evacuate from their homes and where to meet.

“While we want kids to be prepared, we also don’t want them to be scared,” said firefighter Zach Hanson. “We put on our bunker gear and breathing masks so they can see and hear what we’ll look and sound like in case we’re ever called out to their home.”

Fire Prevention Week is Oct. 8-14.
